Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
Wanna hear a funny story? When I was a freshman in college, I totally wanted to impress everyone with my designer purse collection. I got my first credit cards and bought so many of designer bags; Chanel, Dior, Coach, you name it. Little did everyone know, I bought them on eBay and I think they were knock offs, ha! Impress them? Probably not. Go broke on? I surely did. This experience taught me that people who love you will not be impressed by the things you have but by who you are – kind, gentle, compassionate, giving, humble, loving… These things are what people love and admire about you. Not what’s in your bank account or that new fancy thing you just bought yourself. I learned this the hard and expensive way.
#AMORNINGPRAYER: Dear Father, I’ve spent many days trying to impress people with the things money can buy. I feel convicted on this and ask that you forgive me for being so selfish and thinking of myself as better than them because of these things. Amen | 6.27.15
