Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. For man’s anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires]. (James 1:19-20 AMP)
Can we talk real quick about the above verse? When it comes to my friendships I’m very much the “motherly advice giver.” Raise your hand if that’s you too! I don’t think this is a bad thing. But as I mature (aka get older) I’ve realized that many times when I’m having a conversation, listening is really all someone needs me to do; and not to give my advice from my personal experiences (unless I’m asked to of course.) This whole listening thing has made me a better friend. And I leave conversations understanding my friend and her heart a little bit better. Try to be a listener today. Be slow to speak and really hear what your friend is saying.
#AMORNINGPRAYER: God, You know me. You know my good and bad habits. Today I pray that you help me break my bad habit of not listening. I want to be a better friend and I think being slow to speak and pass opinion will help me to be. Please work on this in me. Amen
