I hardly ever get to spend time with the boys one on one. So I was really excited for this day date with Carter! We live right up the street from the cutest hotel called Jamaica Bay Inn and I have always wanted to have brunch there because their restaurant, Beachside, is right on the Marina with the prettiest views.
My favorite thing about the whole day (besides my delicious Smoked Salmon Benedict at brunch), was that I got to hold his hand for a really long time. I held it all the way to brunch and all the way back home. I even got to carry him and that just made my mama heart melt!
Carter ate Cheerios and fruit for brunch (toddler diet). He tried to open every round thing of jelly and he poured salt and pepper all over the table, but he was still the absolute most perfect date.
At brunch we played a fun game with the crayons, that the hostess gave us. I would hold up a crayon and asked him if he saw the color anywhere and he’d scan his surroundings quickly, light up and shout,
“I see blue!”
“I see red!”
“I see green!”
“I see yellow!”
I’m so in awe of him and enjoy seeing the world through his eyes. He’s enthusiastic about colors and shapes, cars and airplanes, water and playgrounds, chocolate and broccoli!
He makes me want to be present and observant. He makes me come alive and I want to tell him that so bad. And I think I will. Because he should know he has the power to do that. To make people come alive.
I needed this time alone with him so badly. My heart swells at the memories we made and I can’t wait until he wakes up from his nap so we can make even more.
So so thankful.
